125cc - Motorcycle Training

ART Motorcycle Training ART Motorcycle Training Logo ART Rides Motorcycle Training

A 125cc Motorcycle can be ridden on L-Plates for up to two years on a CBT certificate without taking a full licence test as long as you are 17 years of age. This is also ideal for novice & nervous new riders who wish to build their confidence before going on to take a full test course. We can arrange road rider courses to top up your skills if you feel it necessary. All of our 125cc on road training is a maximum of 2:1 (other schools offer 3:1 or even 4:1 which drastically reduce the quality & safety of the tuition )

A2 Practical Test

This is taken on a 120cc - 125cc motorcycle of not more than 14.6bhp (11kw) and can reach a minimum speed of 100kph (62mph) and once you have taken and passed both the motorcycle theory test and completed CBT this can be achieved over 2, 3, 4 or 5 day's training. Once you have passed this test you are able to ride any motorcycle of any capacity but it has to be restricted to 33bhp. This restriction automatically upgrades after two years, after which you can ride a motorcycle of any capacity or bhp with no further testing. You must have already passed the D.S.A theory test for motorcycles.

A1 Practical Test

This is taken on a 70cc - 120cc motorcycle a will give you a full licence to ride bikes up to 125cc only. You must have already passed the D.S.A theory test for motorcycles.

Please note that training course lengths are determined by the individual's level of skill and competence. The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after an assessment of your riding skills. This assessment can be carried out when the CBT road ride is undertaken, or if you can already ride you can ring us to arrange a free assessment.

If you have learner plates, a CBT certificate, and are at least 17 years old, you can ride a 125cc motorbike for up to two years without taking the full motorcycle licence test. For this reason, riding a 125cc motorcycle is a good way to start your training, as it allows you to build up confidence in handling the bike on the road before taking the full course test.

At Advanced Riding Training Ltd., we offer two practical motorcycle training courses that will allow you to ride a motorcycle up to 125cc. The A2 practical test is taken on a 120cc to 125cc motorcycle, and allows you to ride any motorcycle under 33bhp. The A1 practical test is taken on a 70 cc to 120cc motorcycle and lets you ride bikes up to 125cc. For both of these tests, you must already have passed the DSA theory test for motorcycles. Course lengths to prepare for these tests vary, and will depend on how much prior experience of riding motorcycles you have. Once we've assessed your skills, we'll tell you how many days of training you'll need.
