Now's the Time

National Motorcycle Week launches 'Now Is The Time'
to take your test before changes in legislation.

The Motorcycle Industry Association organises each year, National Motorcycle Week which promotes motorcycling and the benefits associated with it. The campaign aims to demonstrate to the public, media and politicians the number of motorcyclists in the UK and at the same time it emphasises the important point that owners are from all walks of life and that riding has social, environmental and economic benefits.

Huddersfield University researched rider's attitudes in a project 'The Search for Adventure in Motorcycling' and found that, freedom, fun and friendship emerged as important themes for riders – along side fulfillment. The active rider population in the UK is 1.5 million with an estimated 5 million people having a driving licence with moped/motorcycle entitlement.

As part of National Motorcycle Week, 'Ride 2 Work' day. It high lights the fact that motorcycling not only cuts congestion, pollution and journey times, it is convenient, flexible and cost effective. On this day riders encourage their non biking friends and colleagues to experience the thrills of two-wheels and get them to hop on board for a pillion ride.

This year's theme is 'Now is the Time'. The industry aims to encourage more new people into motorcycling before the new legislation is introduced in 2008. The new legislation means that people will have to complete more difficult tasks to pass their test, probably travel further to take their test, and it will cost more in time and money to complete.

Throughout National Motorcycle Week events will be taking place across the UK as dealers, companies and individuals organise a range of activities. P&H Motorcycles, are inviting anyone interested in getting started in motorcycling along during National Motorcycle Week. This is your chance to have a chat with sales and training staff who have put together a complete 'Getting Started' package where you will be allocated your own advisor who will guide you through everything from motorcycle training, to clothing and protection, to buying the motorcycle or scooter which would best suit your budget and requirements. For further information on getting started, ring us on 01293 413300.

So if you are already involved in Motorcycling , do something different, take an off road course, Bike Safe or advanced rider course, go on a touring break or even hold an event of your own. If you already have your CBT or ever thought about getting on two wheels, now is the time to go for your full licence; freedom, is waiting for you.

Below are two of our recent events which were held at P&H Motorcycles.

The Ducati Open Weekend featured the Desmosedici amidst flashing lights and smoke. Our Ducati demo machines where booked up solid, the 848 being the most popular,
and never had a chance to cool down all day.
Our Ducati technicians were on hand to answer any questions and carried out dyno tests on customers motorcycles for only £10 a go. We set up a computer screen in the viewing window so the results could be watched which caused alot of interest, especially when we tested a 1098 with every conceivable upgrde on it.
Parts, clothing and special paint work were on display and we had two competitions. One for BSB Championships tickets including lunch in the hospitality tent with the Ducati Race Team and Italian chocolates and gift vouchers to spend at Carluccio's Cafe and Food Hall in Covent Garden for the 'Best turned out Ducati'

The launch of Kawasaki's ZX-10R was very well attended and there were plently of prizes, but sadly the winner of the ZX-10R was not from our dealership. This is a very special motorcycle and if you havn't been in to see it make sure you take a look next time you're in our showroom.

Crawley Council is again co-ordinating 'Make the Change', which runs for the month of June. It focuses on traveling to work on foot or by bike, motorcycle, bus or train. Those who must use their car are asked to car share with someone doing a similar journey. Many large companies have signed up to the campaign to enable and encourage their staff to use an alternative methods of transport to their cars.

Don't get done, get Dom!

BBC's popular customer affairs program was filmed at P&H Motorcycles and winkled a very good deal on a YBR 125 out of our Salesman Mark Read. While Dan Rook was doing the deal with Mark in our Showroom, celebrity Dominic Littlewood was outside coaching him in the art of getting the very best deal from Mark through an earpiece and watching the proceedings through a hidden camera. After much tapping on the calculator and scratching of heads Mark came up with a great deal for Dan that even Dom was pleased with. Afterwards Dom and the program makers revealed themselves and there were smiles all round, especially from Dan who came away with a fantastic P&H deal. The program went on air during July and Mark has had no trouble taking to his new found stardom.

The Enhanced Rider Scheme
2008

The enjoyment gained from riding a motorcycle skilfully and safely is second to none but it takes confidence, excelent riding skills, physical coordination and balance. Keeping our skills up to date and checking that we have not become over confident, complacent, or have picked up some bad or dangerous habits is something that few of us do.

Many of the leading motorcycle insurers have signed up for this scheme and offer up to 17% discount off the cost of your insurance if you can show that you can ride to the ERS standard!!

  • DSA working closely with training experts have developed a training syllabus for post test riders designed to reduce risk and improve an individual rider's skills.
  • Bike Riders visit the local accredited trainer for an assessment of their riding skills. If no significant areas of weakness are found, the trainer issues a certificate to that effect.
  • If there are areas that would benifit from further training, the rider would qualify for their certificate after successfully completing the recommended training.

Call our Motorcycle Training School, ART, on 01293 413330 for more details of the scheme and book your assessment. They can also supply you with a list of the insurances companies,
such as Carole Nash and Bennetts, offering the discounts to riders who hold an
Enhanced Rider Insurance Certificate.

Rev for a Reason

BIKE ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS!

Auditions for the world's first bike orchestra were held at P&H Motorcycles last Sunday to support the 'Rev for a Reason Campaign'.

People came from all over Surrey and Sussex to P&H Motorcycles to audition and although the weather wasn't brilliant that didn't dampen the enthusiasm to support this vital awareness campaign. Bikers took it in turn to pull up outside the dealership and rev their engines while being filmed in the hope that they may be chosen for a place in the orchestra. The noise certainly drew the crowds and there were some magnificent performances from the guys and gals participating.

The initiative was launched by World Superbike Champion, James Toseland and conductor Stephen Montague - who are searching the nation for bikers to join the Bennetts Bike Orchestra. They are asking the UK's bike and scooter owners to Rev for a Reason, make a noise and get noticed. This unconventional Bike Orchestra will be made up of motorcycles and their owners who will form a section of a real life orchestra.

Each year around 6,000 bikers are killed or seriously injured on the UK's roads. Drivers are responsible for nearly 25% of car-bike accidents - by looking but not seeing. These worrying statistics are why Bennetts are launching the biggest road safety campaign of 2007 to raise awareness of Bikers in Britain.

P&H Motorcycles were delighted to be asked to help and welcomed customers with coffee and doughnuts, while they queued to show off their musical, mechanical, talents. Bikers who are chosen to join the orchestra will be performing alongside James Toseland and world-renowned conductor Stephen Montague at the 2007 British Superbike Championships at Brands Hatch in April. For more information and to find out how you can support the 'Rev for a Reason Campaign' visit: www.bennetts.co.uk/revforareason
