The Honda CBR650F, in depth
Live in the moment.
Nothing quite compares to the feeling of taking a sports bike out on a twisty road at the weekend. But why can’t that feeling of ‘being in the moment’ live on right through the week, as you take on the city streets? With the all-new CBR650F it can.
Sporty performance and handling, comfort and practicality – the new CBR650F delivers it all. Compact and refined to the last detail, the CBR650F’s DOHC torquey liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine produces responsive acceleration that instantly gets the blood pumping from low revs right up to the 11,000rpm red line. PGM-FI fuel injection delivers reactive throttle feel and good fuel economy.
The CBR650F’s fairing purposely reveals the engine, giving it that street sport edge. But it also provides wind protection for longer journeys and of course, shares the distinctive CBR family style. And there’s more than a hint of Honda racing DNA about the minimal tail unit and short exhaust muffler.
LED front position lights and tail-light provide clear visibility. Large twin digital screens including fuel gauge, clock and trip computer lit by a white backlight make an attractive, clear and functional display.
The CBR650F ‘s completely new inline four-cylinder engine is developed to deliver plenty of low to mid-range torque, 64kW peak power and good fuel economy.
Twin lightweight steel elliptical spars with tuned rigidity balance give the frame its strength and rider feedback. The 41mm telescopic forks deliver accurate front end control and feel, while the preload adjustable rear monoshock works through a sculpted aluminium swingarm.
Twin 320mm wavy front discs are gripped by powerful dual-piston calipers and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as standard.
The DOHC 649cc four-cylinder engine powering the CBR650F is engineered to deliver high torque through the low-to-mid rpm range, especially below 4,000rpm
The development team included many engineers in their twenties, selected to produce a bike with a focus on the younger customer. They decided early on that chasing peak power at redline was off their agenda. Strong acceleration from a standing start, low/mid range torque and mid-gear roll-on throttle response were targeted as the essential elements.
Crisp pick-up above 6,000rpm and – for the sake of reduced running costs – economical cruising at highway speeds was also a focus. The engine is also designed to look good, with no external plumbing obscuring its lines. Sitting relatively far forward in the chassis for optimal weight distribution, the engine is truly at the heart of the machine.
The CBR650F’s steel twin-spar frame has a tuned rigidity balance along with cast pivot plates and aluminium swingarm. The rear shock works directly on the swingarm and is matched to a 41mm telescopic front fork; the wheels are a new six-spoke design. Twin 320mm wavy front and a single 240mm rear disc deliver the stopping power with 2-channel ABS fitted as standard.
A low centre of gravity, slim feel and high-set clip-on handlebars give excellent control and confidence. And the CBR650F’s sharp lines are enhanced by an effective but minimal full fairing that shows off the engine to the maximum. An HRC-inspired racing White, Red and Blue Tricolour paint option provides a finishing flourish.
