Rossi completes spectacular return to MotoGP
Rossi is back on track after his broken legThe racing world has specially-modified motorcycle leathers to thank, as Valentino Rossi made a spectacular return to MotoGP.
In order to get the nine-time champion racing again, Dainese had added extra rider protection to the right shin of his motorcycle leathers in order to strengthen the leg.
Meanwhile, his motorcycle boots had also been modified to allow for a slightly swollen foot.
When the race at the German Sachsenring finally came, few expected Rossi to get much higher than sixth or seventh at best.
However, after a tentative start, Rossi came back to almost match the pace of the leaders - and it looked like he may even finish with a fairytale podium place before being edged out by Ducati's Casey Stoner on the last corner.
"I didn't expect this! I thought it was maybe possible to make fourth or fifth place but I thought it would be very difficult … so this is a fantastic result after missing four races," the Italian told the MotoGP website.
