Akiyoshi will ride for Interwetten Honda in Holland. He will replace Hiroshi Aoyama, who unfortunately broke a vertebra in a crash during the warm-up session at Silverstone this month.
Aoyama is expected to be out of action for the next couple of months and Interwetten Honda is reportedly seeking a "stable" replacement for him after Barcelona.
"We hope he will have a quick recovery and that he will be back with us as strong as he was before as soon as possible," said team boss Daniel Epp.
He added: "At the moment we don't have a rider apart from Assen and Barcelona and we are looking for a suitable solution."
Honda will be hoping that Akiyoshi can repeat his 2007 performance at the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race, where he took the victory for Suzuki along with Yukio Kagayama.
