Bikers boost British tourism
Bikers boost UK tourism sectorWith the warmer weather setting in, two-wheeled tourism expenditure in the UK is expected to hit around £569 million, according to the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI).
As riders take to the roads and make the most of cafes, pubs and tourist attractions, they support some 13,250 jobs.
The average biker spends around £380 on their UK travels, according to figures collected for the MCI by GHK.
Nearly a fifth of the total is spent in the south-west, with the south-east, London and the north-west each holding around a tenth of the national figure thanks to their various popular roads and meeting points.
MCI's chief executive officer Steve Kenward called for more to be done to attract overseas bikers and encourage homegrown two-wheel fans to make the most of their country.
"Providing secure parking, offering discounts for groups, creating links with sporting events and generally offering a bike- friendly environment will lead to longer stays, more spending and happier customers," he commented.
