Simoncelli crashed out again at Laguna SecaMarco Simoncelli was looking for positives after he tested his motorcycle clothing yet again with a slide into the Laguna Seca gravel trap.
The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider is getting something of an unwelcome reputation for crashing out - a sign of his uncompromising riding style which is certainly making him interesting to watch.
This was certainly the case again in California, as the Italian was locked in a fierce battle with compatriot and teammate Marco Melandri before crashing out on lap 19 after hitting a bump at turn five.
He told the MotoGP website: "Bad things usually come in threes and that proved to be the case for me this weekend.
"I crashed again in the race and it was a shame because I was running really well."
The positive ride to that point, coupled with the season-best sixth-place finish in the last round has put Simoncelli in a positive mood for the next event at Brno - one of his favourite circuits.
Jorge Lorenzo extended his championship lead to 72 points at Laguna Seca, after rival Dani Pedrosa crashed out at the same corner as Simoncelli.
