Surrey County Council has teamed up with the local Police force to remind bikers of the need for adequate motorcycle clothing when out riding.

As part of the Drive SMART initiative, the authorities have launched a series of hard-hitting adverts designed to ensure bikers stay protected, while also reminding drivers of the need to be aware of motorcyclists.

Around three-quarters of the motorcycle accidents in Surrey involve collision with another vehicle, Inspector Chris Colley from Surrey's Roads Policing Unit told the Epsom Guardian.

He goes on to say that the force will continue to try and reduce casualties through education and enforcement.

He told the publication: "Our advice to motorcyclists is to ride safely – wear protective clothing and expect the unexpected – and our message to drivers is to look out for bikes."

Earlier this month, Hertfordshire County Council reminded bikers of the need to wear protective motorcycle clothing when riding, despite temptations to go without in hot weather.
