CBT - Compulsory Basic Training
This is not a test, it is a one day course designed for students to reach a competent and safe level of riding on the road.
The course starts with an explanation of the course format and what involved. This includes a discussion on the correct type of safety clothing and helmets to wear, the Highway Code and how to carry our basic maintenance checks on your machine.
Helping you to improve you skills and confidence you will spend half a day in our safe training facility learning how to pull away, stop correctly, demonstrate emergency stops, gear changing and cornering.
The second half of the day will be spent out on the road. This is structured to reinforce and expand your newly acquired skills. If you are competent and show the instructor that you can ride in a safe and proficient manner you will then receive your CBT certificate.
CBT certificates are only valid for two years.
Theory Test
This incorporates a hazard perception test and both must be passed before taking a practical test. This will be taken at a DSA test centre.
This lasts approximately one hour and involves answering multiple choice questions on all aspects of motorcycle road use via a touch screen.
The Hazard perception test involves identifying hazards as they appear on a video clip. You are asked to react to the hazard by clicking with the mouse.
You will receive both set of results the same day - this certificate is only valid for two years.
Refresher Courses
These courses are for students who are re-testing. |
A2 Practical Test
This is taken on a 125cc motorcycle of not more than 14.6bhp and can be a 3, 4 or 5 day course.
Once you have passed this test you are able to ride any motorcycle of any capacity but it has to be restricted to 33bhp.
This restriction automatically upgrades after two years, after which you can ride a motorcycle of any capacity or bhp with no further testing.
Direct Access (DAS)
Riders must be over 21 and take the test on a 500cc machine. (ART uses Kawasaki ER500's). This again can be a 3, 4 or 5 day course.
When you have passed the DAS you can ride any machine of unlimited capacity.
Please note that course lengths are determined by the individual's level of skill and competence. The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after a free assessment of your riding skills. (This assessment can be carried out when the CBT is booked)
Return Courses
Return courses are for those full licence holders who would like to top up their existing skills after they have passed their test.
This course is also ideal for those returning to biking after a long break, enabling the rider to concentrate on any problem areas such as cornering or overtaking, thus providing a perfect stepping stone towards taking their advanced training course.
This course is available in whole or half day courses.
We offer motorcycle training in Crawley, motorcycle training in Brighton and the surrounding areas as far as Worthing, Hastings, Tunbridge Wells, Haywards Heath, Croydon and London. We basically offer training to anyone from anywhere willing to travel to our East Grinstead training centre.
