Off roaders are often described as 'go-anywhere' motorbikes but in the Tenere's case they really mean it. With a massive 22 litre fuel tank and tough, durable construction, there are few places in the world that lie beyond its reach. This is the true adventurer's motorcycle, designed for the curious rather than the cautious.
Its steel semi-double-cradle chassis has strength engineered in, while the light aluminium swing arm cuts weight for agile handling, aided and abetted by long travel right-way-up front forks. Power, meanwhile, is provided by the 660cc unit from the XT660X, retuned to give the kind of low-to-mid range grunt essential for all-terrain travelling, while massive 298mm front discs with Brembo callipers and 245 mm rear discs take care of the stopping duties.
The more than generous fuel tank continues below the seat, giving a hugely increased capacity without subjecting the rider to a splayed sitting position. This also serves to keep the centre of gravity far lower on the motorcycle, adding stability, and improving the handling.
And while this motorbike is undoubtedly rugged and robust - complete with crash protection for the engine - it also has all the touches required for all day riding comfort, including smooth throttle response, and a well padded, spacious seat.
These new motorcycles are clearly more than capable of handling anything that the domestic road has to throw at them, but you might want to think twice about using one for work. With enough juice in the tank to keep you going long after the road runs out, and enough spirit and adventure built in to tempt even the most dedicated worker, it's going to be really hard to just stop and get off when you reach the office.
