As a new Yamaha VMAX rider you'll just long for red lights and stop signs, because the sheer thrill of screaming from 0-60mph in under 2.5 seconds, as the massive 1678cc engine punches you in the kidneys and autographs the road in rubber, simply never wears off.

The new Yamaha VMAX 2009 is fast, powerful, and beautiful to look at - but at £16,000 it's also pretty expensive. But so worth it! This is a motorbike of pure indulgence with almost no practical value, but who cares? The VMAX Yamaha carries nothing more than your flask and sandwiches, it goes less than 100 miles on a thankful and it is far too dangerous to ever trust around a track, but with almost 200bhp for your money plus unrivalled pedigree and poise, none of that seems to matter.

It has taken Yamaha Motorcycles a quarter of a century to refine the groundbreaking 1984 V-Max, but the time has been well spent. The new 2009 Yamaha VMAX shows huge improvements in go, and more importantly, stop. Where the old tweezers barely slowed the beast, the new six piston brakes and 320mm wavy front discs keep it firmly under control - good to know when you're sat astride 310kg of brute force where the smallest twist sends the world into a psychedelic blurr.

Other improvements include electronic drive-by-wire throttle, variable intake ducts, shaft drive, ABS, and NASA specification instruments. These all enhance the low slung, long wheelbase, fat back tyre attitude of this staggering, swaggering motorcycle.

Yamaha don't expect to sell many of these amazing new motorcycles, and at £7,000 more than a B-King that's not surprising. But limited edition styling will only add to the credibility and kudos that makes these motorbikes so attractive. Are there more sensible ways to spend £16,000? Possibly. But can you get more raw excitement for it? Extremely unlikely.

With their origins in manufacturing musical instruments, Japanese company Yamaha began diversifying in the 1950s to produce simple, inexpensive motorbikes. Today, they are a leading motorcycle manufacturer, and are best known for producing some of the most powerful sports bikes, off-road bikes and cruisers available.

P&H Motorcycles stocks a large range of new Yamaha motorcycles, including sports touring bikes, street bikes, sport torque bikes, cruisers, adventurers, and 125cc models. Exciting additions to our 2009 range of Yamaha bikes include the groundbreaking YZF-R1 with the first asymmetric crossplane crankshaft layout ever seen on a production bike, and the XT660XSM inspired by the on road/off road Supermotard bikes. As the latest addition to Yamaha's cruiser category, the XVS 950A Midnight Star is long and low, with a newly-designed, powerful 942cc v-twin engine, even though it remains lightweight in feel. In addition to these and other Yamaha bikes, we offer a range of popular Yamaha scooters, including high wheel scooters and maxi scooters.

To find out more about any of the Yamaha bikes or scooters, contact us to speak to a P&H motorcycle representative today.
