Yamaha WR250XWhy waste time and money finding fun off-road when there are as many challenges, if not more, waiting for you on the tracks of the urban jungle? That's the thinking behind Yamaha motorcycle's new 2008 WR250X. Launched at the same time as the wild WR250R, the slightly more domesticated WR250X offers a streetwise ride with cool, supermoto looks. And although they share the same name and many of the same basic components, these new motorcycles couldn't be more different in their approach to life. The WR250X needs nothing more than your own neighbourhood to show you its stuff, though with such a stylish finish you'll definitely want to show it off further afield. The chassis is inspired by the WR-F and YZ-F racers, with lots of aluminium for lightness and agility. However, in a stroke of design genius, much of this comes blacked out giving these motorbikes an untouchable urban cool. Combine this with an arrogant upturned exhaust and much respected SuMo styling and you've got a motorcycle with real attitude. Just like its trial bike brother, the WR250X features electronic fuel injection to get the most out of the high revving engine, with titanium valves, a forged piston, and a plated cylinder to keep it revving for as long as possible. However, the suspension is much more civilised, thanks to the road-focussed tuning of the 46mm, fully adjustable front forks. In addition, the braking gives you the added power you need for a performance road motorbike, with huge 298mm wave disc front brakes gripped by twin piston callipers. You'll also feel more in touch with the deck, thanks to a 35mm lower seat height and twin 17" wheels, with great, road friendly radials. These motorbikes are built for extreme fun right on your doorstep, with increased acceleration, dynamic handling, and chic styling. Whatever kind of day you've had the ride home will more than reward you, without having to wait until the weekend.
