While some Victory motorcycles glory in their custom paint jobs and technocolour styling, the appeal of the Victory Highball 2012 is much more black and white. Stripped down from the standard Vegas and lifted up with monkey hanger handlebars, this is the very essence of the good ol' boys bikes that have made Victory such a thorn in the side of Harley Davidson.
Blacked out from head to toe apart from the white tank detail and distinctive white-wall tyres, the 2012 Victory Vegas Highball throbs with understated style. But don't worry, they may have removed everything you didn't need, like the passenger seat, luggage bags and even the Victory badge, but they have left everything that you do.
The Highball boasts the signature Victory 1731 cc V-twin power plant, delivering an impressive 92 hp and 104 ft lbs of torque, giving it the muscle to match its no-nonsense looks. This is applied via Victory's silky smooth six speed overdrive transmission, and kept under control by 43 mm conventional forks with plenty of travel and brought to a halt by the impressive 300 mm floating discs front and rear.
But the 2012 Victory Highball is as much about straight talking style as it is about performance, which, let's face it, is a given with any Victory machine. And it has style in spades – the ace of spades to be precise – embodied in the ridge back raised spine that runs the length of the bike. From the pitch black wheel rims and hubs to the wire-spoked wheels, from the adjustable handlebars that drop a full 9” to the slash cut twin pipe exhaust, the Victory Vegas Highball is as cool as they come, with hardly a glint of chrome in sight.
In a world where wind tunnel sculpted power bikes seem to get further and further away from the true joy of riding, nostalgia is no bad thing. It's good to know that there's still someone who remembers how a real bike should look, and more importantly, how it should make you feel.
At P&H Motorcycles we value the opinion of our customers and would especially welcome your feedback when it comes to the motorcycles you have or currently own.
