If truth be told, the 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 isn't a radically different machine than its predecessors, but then the Japanese have had to deal with a lot in the last year, from earthquakes and tsunamis to economic turmoil, so inevitably their minds will have been elsewhere a lot of the time. But it's really not a problem, because there wasn't that much that could be improved on this legendary bike anyway; with world championship level engineering and truly staggering performance already available in abundance, a few tweaks were all we were ever going to get.
That said, those tweaks give the 2012 GSX-R1000 Suzuki improved acceleration, better throttle response and a slightly better fuel economy, while new Brembo monobloc brakes pull it up that little bit sharper. It also boasts a brand new colour scheme, so everyone will know you have the 2012 model, even if they don't know it is fundamentally the same as the older version.
And don't be disappointed by the lack of changes, because what stays the same is remarkable, with the Suzuki 2012 GSX-R1000 bristling with market-leading proprietary technology and impressive acronyms, from SRAD (Suzuki Ram Air Direct) to SDTV (Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve), from S-DMS (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector) to SET (Suzuki Exhaust Tuning).
The 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is a little lighter and a smidge quicker, but much of the changes are stylistic rather than fundamental. The result is a bike that will not disappoint dedicated GSX-R1000 riders, but won't truly excite them either. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, goes the saying, but with the Ducati Panigale breathing down its neck in the coming months, Suzuki need to be thinking of something more radical for their next revision or their dedicated faithful could soon lose their faith.
