Bred for racing by the winners of the 2011 German Superbike Championship, the KTM RC8R Track has everything you need for superlative performance, and nothing you don't. But don't be fooled; this isn't a stripped back race version of the road bike, this is a bespoke track-designed bike in its own right, bristling with race-proven technology and specialist equipment.
The KTM RC8R Track may only be just over £2K more than its road going brother, but you get far more than £2K worth of kit for your money. And while every piece of that kit contributes to this astonishing bike's heart racing performance, none of it adds any weight, leaving the Race Spec KTM 1190 RC8R an astonishing 14 kg lighter than the road version and second only to the featherweight Ducati Panigale in the lightweight litre bike league.
Pumping out 180 hp from the twin spark four stroke 195 cc power plant, the KTM RC8R Race Spec could easily be overwhelming for even the most experienced riders, yet this power is delivered with such finesse that it becomes a pure pleasure to ride, with each lap running faster than the last as you come to trust the technology. Improved engine compression and a retuned ECU mean the harsh throttle response of the old KTM RC8R has been vastly improved, however the KTM RC8R race spec still takes a little getting used to as the bike responds enthusiastically to the slightest twist of the wrist.
Nonetheless, a slipper clutch, quickshifter gearing, WP suspension and racing standard brake system all help you take full advantage of the power and agility at your disposal, while the Keihin engine management system is mapped for racing to ensure that power is maximised at all times.
Add in Marchesini aluminium wheels, WP4618 fully adjustable racing shock absorbers and TiAIN coated WP front forks, together with a host of other race-based refinements, and you have a truly remarkable track bike at an incredible price.
