Not everyone has the luxury, or racing ambition, to be able to keep the staggering track ready KTM 1190 RC8 R in their garage, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out on the adrenaline or the action. The street legal standard KTM 1190 RC8 R is every bit as astonishing, yet can still get you to work round the M25.
The road going KTM 1190 RC8 R still boasts an impressive 175 hp, just a handful less than its race spec counterpart, and packs a staggering 94 ft lbs of torque punch, all delivered with superb smoothness through one of the most beautifully engineered chassis currently available.
Best of all, KTM have been listening to the feedback from owners of previous models and have refined all that power for a smoother ride and a much less twitchy throttle response. New twin spark plugs on each cylinder of the mighty V2, revised ECU and tweaked cam timing all combine to make the 2012 KTM 1190 RC8 R a more refined ride, that if anything behaves better than the over enthusiastic race version.
Some may see the lack of electronic rider aids on the 1190 RC8 R as a failing, but with such agility and flexibility, you simply don't need these toys. KTM concentrate their efforts on providing you with a responsive rider experience that feels so natural and instinctive, that much of this modern technology would just get in the way.
That's not to say that the KTM RC8 R is low spec – far from it. This is a bike that has been finished with a style befitting its engineering prowess, including Marchesini cast aluminium wheels, WP suspension and Brembo brakes to keep you firmly in control, along with a contactless fully electronic ignition with digital timing control.
Sadly, we can't all live the dream of a track racing career, but with the KTM 1190 RC8 R, you can still dream a little on your way to your real life job.
