The KTM RC8 - rising to the challenge
KTM motorcycles have a well-deserved reputation for build quality, fantastic design, and cutting-edge innovation. Never ones to take the easy road, KTM have been making a determined effort to break into superbikes since 2005. This is a completely new arena for KTM, and their progress and impact has been phenomenal.
The first KTM superbike
The launch of the 1190 RC8, the first KTM superbike, created a real stir at the 2006 EICMA Milano motorbike show. With its powerful midrange 155 horsepower, 88.5 lb-ft torque V-Twin engine, the KTM RC8 was quickly labelled a dream ride. The WP suspension, radial-mount Brembo brakes and the non-traditional rear linkage combined with the lightweight construction of the RC8 – 200 kg with a full tank – guarantees fantastic performance. And, since this first unveiling by KTM motorcycles, the RC8 has got even sleeker!
The racing KTM RC8
The 1148 cc v-twin RC8 KTM superbike entered the world arena of superbike racing at the start of 2008, and KTM expects to give Ducati some stiff competition throughout the 2009 season and beyond.
Featuring the latest MotoGP clutch technology, the RC8 has an on-board computer with software that works out what is happening at the rear wheel. If there are excessive forces, for example from compression braking, the system compensates by adding lubrication to stop wheel slide, giving an all-important edge during track racing.
KTM: no compromise on power or comfort
The racing KTM RC8 superbike boasts a 1148cc v-twin engine that provides over 150 horsepower at the rear wheel, and gives pure power with refinement and smoothness. Like the 1190 RC8, the chassis is made to be lightweight, but the racing version of the KTM RC8 is a good few kg lighter still than the road model.
As with the 1190 RC8, the racing 1148 RC8 also has a fully adjustable riding position. Combined with the superb WP suspension and the adjustable steering damper, this gives a balance and control that is unbeatable.
The KTM RC8 superbike is definitely riding high. The new racing RC8 is an even more impressive machine than its road-riding counterpart if you want speed, and more speed. Both are available from KTM dealers such as P & H Motorcycles, one of the premier motorbike dealers in the UK. We can keep you up-to-date on this fabulous bike, and provide all the KTM spares and parts that you will ever need.
