The KTM 690 Supermoto – a supermoto to be reckoned with

Supermoto bikes were originally meant for racing tracks but, since the late 1990s, major manufacturers such as KTM Motorcycles have been making and improving supermoto bikes for the general market. A cross between a motocross bike and a nippy on-roader, the supermoto is traditionally thought of as only for short journeys for fun rather than a bike for every day.

KTM Motorcycles is changing that perception with new bikes such as the KTM 690 Supermoto.

KTM's first supermoto was the Supermoto 620, which was unveiled in 1998. Several generations later, the KTM 690 shows just how far this exciting model has come.

The KTM 690 Supermoto has a powerful single-cylinder engine, very compact and counterbalanced. Although only 653cc, the engine delivers a massive 63 brake horsepower. The KTM 690 also features highly sophisticated fly-by-wire throttle technology, four valves, and an efficient liquid cooling system. This combination delivers power with firm acceleration and puts the rider firmly in control. Agility, power, and safety are all integral to the 690 KTM, with braking supplied by a front Brembo caliper with four pads and four pistons. And, as with all KTM supermoto designs, quality and reliability are top priority.

Comfortable and manoeuvrable for town and city riding, the 690 KTM is just as at home over rough terrain, or taking you up the steepest mountain track. The KTM 690 is built with all the technical advantages of a supermoto, while also taking into account the practicality demanded by most riders. Its fuel tank is large for supermotos – which have been criticised for their lack of range. The three gallon tank gives the KTM 690 rider about 150 miles of unbroken biking. And, most welcome of all, the KTM 690 seat design makes it a more than comfortable ride. So you can actually do 150 miles at one go and still be able to walk afterwards.

Most importantly, the KTM 690 supermoto is a lot of fun. It's highly stable, even at the top speeds of about 140 miles per hour, and handles turns with ease, giving you the confidence to tackle even hairpins without slowing too much. No wonder the 690 KTM is also known as the KTM 690 Adventure.
