Sure enough, after testing three major frame variations and hundreds of technical tweaks, they emerged, blinking in the daylight, with a new Kawasaki ZX6R for 2009. A fresh new motorcycle that's sharper, lighter, and smoother, with a host of minor revisions and major redesigns that give it all the handling and the power it needs to reassert its dominance.
Some of the changes are subtle, such as the one degree drop in rake angle for a smoother, surer turn, or the switch to magnesium for the engine covers saving just under a kilo in weight. Others are more pronounced, including new Big Piston Forks to improve control, and a new side muffler exhaust for better overall balance.
Of course, if it ain't broke you don't fix it, so the class-leading brakes and superb slipper clutch have seen little change, having already set a standard that other motorbikes struggle to reach.
Borrowing from its big brother, the ZX10-R, the ZX6R Kawasaki also has a resculpted fuel tank with contact patches for greater rider feedback, while its new handlebars are now closer to the rider and tilted slightly for a more comfortable riding posture. New, aggressive lines give these iconic new motorcycles a cutting edge look to match the state of the art technology on board.
Together the changes leave this stunning motorbike 10kg lighter, and it's all the livelier for the weight loss. With more power in both the mid and high revs, smoother, more responsive handling and new sleeker styling, the new Ninja looks ready to take Kawasaki right back to the top.
At P&H Motorcycles we value the opinion of our customers and would especially welcome your feedback when it comes to the motorcycles you have or currently own.
