The Kawasaki ER6n has long been a favourite of city and commuter bikers because of its agile, solid performance. And for 2012, Kawasaki have managed to give city riders more of all the things they love in the ER6n, without it losing any of its dependable street smart character.
One of the best things about the Kawasaki ER6n has always been its low end grunt, giving you all the torque you need to weave your way through the crowded city streets with confidence. And the new 2012 model has even more torque across the range, giving you confident manoeuvrability at low speeds as well as exceptional pull when the roads open up at the city's edge. This spread of torque does come at a cost of a few hp, but you will still have 72 hp to play with, which is more than enough for your average commute.
Also new on the 2012 Kawasaki ER6n is the steel double pipe perimeter frame, which, together with the stressed engine, produces a solid, self-assured machine that's more accessible and easier to live with than the earlier models. Kawasaki have also revised the suspension front and rear, to both forgive the rough and ready city streets and deliver sporty handling when you finally break free.
And that is the essence of this smart 650 twin. Not only will it see you through the week in combative commuter style, punching into the smallest traffic gaps to get you to work on time, but it will also keep you amused all weekend too, when you get to choose more bike-friendly roads and let rip because time doesn't matter.
Optional ABS and various smaller tweaks complete the upgrade package, making the new 2012 ER6n a considerable improvement on previous models, while still remaining true to the pedigree of this very successful bike. It's never an easy balancing act to achieve but with the 2012 ER6n, Kawasaki might just have pulled it off.
