Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10REvery so often a bike comes along that asks more questions of you than you can ever possibly ask of it. A motorcycle whose limits you may never find. A ride that will keep giving for as long as you can hold your nerve to keep taking. The new 2008 Kawasaki Ninja ZX 10R is just such a motorbike. Delivering a massive 200bhp in race mode, with 83 ft/lbs of torque, it could take you frighteningly close to 190mph and still feel like there's more to give. Yet there's something about the feedback from the new chassis that steels your resolve to dig a little deeper than you normally would. There's a confidence in the engineering that leaves you feeling in control of the beast, rather than clinging on at its mercy. This is a bike that wants you to ride it, and ride it very, very fast. Strangely, the 2008 model is 8lbs heavier than its predecessor, but feels lighter. This is thanks to the repositioning of the exhaust system, lower and closer to the centre of the motorbike. This gives it a nimbler, more responsive handling, like that of a 750, with carefully carved touch-points on the tank and frame, designed to help you 'feel' your ride better, for greater confidence and control. Even then, the brand new state-of-the art ECU still monitors the revs at the back wheel 50 times a second, using the new Kawasaki Ignition Management System to negate the effects of greasy roads or unwanted wheel spin. There's also a pleasing human touch to these new motorcycles. While the previous model was aerodynamically efficient, it lacked visual appeal in its roundness. This time Kawasaki has sharpened the look, giving it great edgy lines to match its power. Other improvements include lower gearing in 1st, 4th and 5th, improved structural rigidity, and new oval-shaped throttle bodies, which all combine to add an extra 8bhp at the top end without losing any of the old Ninja's low and mid range 'umph.' Quite simply, the new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has no limits that any ordinary rider will ever reach. But what it will do is help you push your own limits further and faster than you believed possible.
