Kawasaki GTR1400

With the 2008 GTR1400, Kawasaki claims to have created a totally new concept in high performance motorcycles - the Supersports Tourer. And with 155bhp and around 100 lb/ft of torque from the retuned ZZR1400 superbike engine, it's hard to argue that these new motorcycles don't break the mould.

In essence, Kawasaki Motorcycles have taken their hugely impressive ZZR1400 - the world's most powerful sportsbike, and given it all the comfort and technology you need to eat up whole continents as easily as its inspiration ate up the competition.

The monocoque chassis, unique in its class, has been tweaked to provide a riding position that gives lasting comfort for both rider and pillion mile after mile, while the engine has been given a new class-leading smoothness and sophistication. Variable Valve Timing, slick Tretra-Lever shaft drive, and a very high sixth gear (listed as overdrive) mean the miles just melt beneath your motorcycle. Moreover, the wind-tunnel tested fairing and electronically adjustable windshield help you cut through the air like it isn't there.

The Kawasaki GTR1400's power arrives early in the low-to-medium revs and stays strong right through, with the overdrive giving sustained high speed with ease on the high roads. Yet drop down to fifth and you've still got all the punch and pizzazz you'd expect from 1400cc of Kawasaki kit.

But this is no brutal sports motorbike. Kawasaki have equipped this superb machine with elegance and poise with touches like ABS, tyre pressure monitors, and a very secure electronic ignition key system to take care of your bike when you stop for that well earned drink in the middle of nowhere. You'll even find an AC power source under the dash so you can grab a quick shave before you go in!

Don't bother buying a road map when you buy one of these motorbikes - you'll be off the edge before you've even had chance to fold it badly. All you need is a globe, a sense of adventure, and enough stamps and postcards to keep your mates green with envy.
