Ducati fans will immediately notice that the new Ducati 1199 Panigale breaks the mould by adding a name to the numbers; but then mould breaking is exactly what this incredible superbike is all about. For some manufacturers, a ‘new' bike is little more than an update of an existing model – but not for Ducati. The 1199 Panigale has been completely re-designed and re-engineered to produce quite simply the best Ducati superbike ever.
First unveiled at the Milan Motorcycle Show in November 2011, the Ducati 1199 Panigale was much anticipated, and it did not disappoint. The engineers have risen to the twin challenges of 10 kg less weight and 25 hp more power in stunning style, producing a breathtaking machine that boasts no less than 195 hp, in race or sport riding mode, from a dry weight of just 164 kg. But it's not just what they have achieved, but the way that they have achieved it that makes the Ducati 1199 Panigale so special.
For example, the all-new superquadro engine is also an integral, stressed part of the chassis, combining with a die-cast aluminium monocoque frame to save over 5 kg. And this strategy is continued throughout the bike, creating multifunction single parts in place of multiple components.
The Ducati 1199 Panigale is without doubt a stunning technical achievement, but it is also so much more, because Ducati have always kept the rider at the heart of each and every achievement. This may be a mighty beast, but careful ergonomics of seat position and handlebars creates an instinctive, intuitive feel to the ride and a ‘fatigue-free' riding position.
What's more, the 98.1ft lbs of torque and 195 hp of the Ducati 1199 Panigale remain completely within your control. A choice of pre-set riding modes balances the electronic suspension, eight levels of traction control and the ABS settings, to create the ideal combination for race riding, sport riding or wet riding, with each level adjustable to your own personal settings within each mode, to give you complete mastery of your environment.
Ducati claim that their engineers were given a ‘no-compromise' brief for the new 1199 Panigale, and clearly they haven't.
