So why is the Ducati 1198S just so good? Well for a start it weighs just 169 kg (372.6lb) dry, and produces 170bhp. Not only that, three time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss has had more than just a hand in the development and design of this masterpiece, in fact his fingerprints are all over the new Ducati motorcycle.
With the same geometry, chassis, and brakes as other successful Ducati motorcycles, such as the 1098, this bike is exactly what you would expect. In these difficult times Ducati dealers must be jumping up and down for joy on full order books, because with motorbikes like the 1198S to sell Ducati motorcycle sales must be as strong as the torque on this phenomenal machine - and you have to remember that all Ducati bikes are bestsellers.
So what makes the 1198S first among equals with regards to all new motorcycles available in 2009? Well how about a lightweight racing chassis, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Data Analysis (DDA) as standard? Both the data management system and traction control system come straight from the racetrack with only a limited amount of re-engineering to prepare it for road use. This would have been the stuff of dreams only last year.
So the fact that the Ducati 1198S is loaded with more racing technology than any Superbike ever before identifies it as more than a winner, making the Ducati 1198S the first motorbike to ever really fully deserve the title 'Superbike.'
