The Ducati Desmosedici is claimed to be the first true road replica of a MotoGP racing bike. First launched at the 2006 Italian MotoGP event in Mugello, the Desmosedici is scheduled for first delivery any day now.

As a MotoGP replica, the Desmosedici Ducati applies the superior performance and technology of the MotoGP to a road bike - and the results are stunning. The shape and body design of the Desmosedici RR are taken from the Desmosedici GP6 and reflect the company's leap in technological advancements for this 2007 motocycle.

As with a Grand Prix bike, the Desmosedici is made with a sand-cast aluminium crankcase and cylinder heads, as well as titanium con-rods and sand-cast magnesium engine covers. The tubular Trellis hybrid frame and components are covered by a super-light carbon fibre body. The Desmosedici is also the first street bike to use Marchesini magnesium alloy rims and Bridgestone tyres developed especially.

The powerful four-cylinder, 898cc Desmodromic engine on the Ducati Desmosedici is an accurate reflection of the MotoGP's engine.  Capable of 1000 r.p.m. and known for its precise valve control while at the highest revs, the engine has four titanium valves per cylinder that run in asymmetrical “twin pulse" firing order. Overall, the engine is an impressive example of precision engineering that has never before been seen on a road bike.
